ALL OVER! VICTORY for INDIA, they win by a massive 203 runs. Pakistan have been bowled out for just 69. This is their heaviest defeat in Under-19 cricket
Clinical from India. This is the perfect revenge for their senior team’s loss against Pakistan in the final of last year’s Champions Trophy. But let’s take out a moment to congratulate this Indian team who were ahead of Pakistan today in all three departments. After Shubman Gill lifted India to a formidable 272/9 from the depths of 166/5 with a strokeful 102*, the bowlers came up with the perfect second act. ALL OUT for just 69. That will stink. Ishan Porel finishes with 4/17.
India now face Australia in the final on Saturday. Both teams have won the Under 19 World Cup three times each. On current form, don’t think they are beatable.
45 mins ago45/7 has become 48/8. Absolutely shoddy from Pakistan. India two wickets away from a memorable win and booking a place in the final
52 mins agoWicket No. 7 goes down for Pakistan
Do not blink. You might miss a wicket falling. Yes, it’s happening that quickly for India. Pakistan are tottering at 45/7 as their skipper Hassan Khan departs. Riyan Parag picks up his second wicket. But, the real attraction of that dismissal is none other that Mr. Gill. The ball was going away from him, and India’s centurion of the match, runs backwards and plucks a Kapil Dev like catch from the year 1983. Has to be the catch of the tournament. Stunning.
08:36 AM (IST)Pakistan SIX down for 41 in 18 overs, India on top
Two wickets in two overs for India. First it was Muhammad Taha, who sliced to point off Shiva Singh, and the next over, it was Riyan Parag’s turn to get among the wickets as Rohail Nazir skied to mid-off. Pakistan staring down the barrel.
08:30 AM (IST)Just 8 runs have come off the last five overs
08:06 AM (IST)Keeps getting worse for Pakistan, they are 28/4
And all those 4 wickets have belonged to one person: Ishan Porel.
07:58 AM (IST)The runs aren’t coming for Pakistan. 10 over gone and they are 28/3
Out of those 10, 5 have been maidens. Indian pacers making life difficult.
07:49 AM (IST)India reduce Pakistan to 20/3 in defence of 272
Identical dismissal to the previous one. Ali Zaryab out caught at slip. Shaw the catcher, Ishan the bowler. What do Pakistan do now? In all sorts of trouble so early. Wicket maiden for Ishan
07:35 AM (IST)OUT! Pakistan two down for 13
After Mavi, it’s captain Prithvi Shaw who takes a diving catch at second slip. Imran Shah goes for 2 and Ishan gets his second wicket. India all over Pakistan at the moment.
07:33 AM (IST)India bowlers keeping in tight. Five overs bowled and only 12 runs scored
07:30 AM (IST)India strike early in defence of 272, Pakistan 10/1
First, he bowls two good overs, and now takes a wonderful catch at deep fine leg. Shivam Mavi is already in the thick of things. It was a pick up shot off the bowling of Ishan and Muhammad Zaid, who dropped two catches earlier, cannot make amends with the bat either. Finds Mavi, who manages to hold on to a catch inches inside the fence. Early success for India.
07:23 AM (IST)Shivam Mavi right on the money
Two overs, two maidens, no runs, no wickets. That’s Shivam Mavi’s figures for you after the first three overs. Pakistan having to work hard early in their innings. Indian fast bowling pair of Mavi and Ishan Porel hardly giving anything away. 7/0 after 3 overs.
06:47 AM (IST)Shubman Gill hits 93-ball century (102*) to propel India to 272/9 against Pakistan
Incredible stuff this from Gill. He stayed calm and composed, and finally brought up a much-deserved century off the last ball of the innings. But wait? Last ball, was it? No. Muhammad Musa overstepped and it gave India one more go, off which they managed a single. But what an innings this has been. Gill takes his tally to 341 runs with an average of over 150. Tremendous stuff this. We’ll return soon with the Pakistan innings. Stay tuned.
06:24 AM (IST)India cross 250, Gill nearing his century
06:22 AM (IST)OUT! India lose their seventh
Kamlesh Nagarkoti plays on to a delivery from Shaheen Afridi. India 242/7 with three overs left. Gill meanwhile, is 16 away from a century.
06:14 AM (IST)India lose their sixth wicket with 233 on the board. Five overs remain
Muhammad Musa gets his second wicket. Good bouncer and Anukul Roy went for the pull. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t clear it past the wicketkeeper. The umpire didn’t seem convinced but raised his finger looking at the batsman walking. Good innings none the less this from Anukul. He scores 33 off 45, but more importantly provided India and Gill a partnership they so desperately needed after being five down for 166.
06:03 AM (IST)Gill (66*) and Roy (31*) bring up a very crucial 50-run partnership. India 219/5 in 43 overs
05:50 AM (IST)40 gone, India 197/5
We enter the final 40 minutes of the first innings. With 10 overs left, how many more runs can India get? Pakistan’s batting isn’t as formidable as their bowling, so anything around 250, maybe? India however, would be hoping more than that as long as Shubman Gill stays out there. He is unbeaten on 60 off 66 and is getting commendable support from Anukul Roy, who has already hit three boundaries.
05:31 AM (IST)50 for Gill, India 172/5 in 35.1 overs
Half-century for Shubman Gill. He continues his glorious form in the tournament and has held the Indian innings together- fourth 50 for him in this World Cup. His team needs more from him though. Still 15 overs left for India.
05:23 AM (IST)WICKET! India have lost half their side for 166
Two in two becomes three in three for Arshad. He gets his third of the innings to have India in trouble. Sends one down the leg side and Abhishek Sharma offers a feather to the keeper for 5. This is worrying for India. However, Shubman Gill, unbeaten on 46 at the other end, remains the key to their chances.
05:14 AM (IST)Arshad twin strikes bring Pakistan back. India India 156/4 in 31.1 overs
Well, well well! Arshad has struck again, for the second time in two overs. He has Riyan out edging to the keeper. Outside off and the batsman pokes at that one
05:06 AM (IST)Desai departs, India 148/3 in 29.2 overs
Ah! Just when the partnership seemed to be looking threatening, Arshad Iqbal comes back strong in his new spell to get rid of Harvik Desai for 20. Short ball outside off but the wicketkeeper batsman can’t really connect as well as he’d have liked to. Slashes it straight to point. The breakthrough has come but Pakistan will need to avoid another partnership here.
04:59 AM (IST)Gill and Desai building on the strong foundation laid by Shaw and Kalra, India 145/2 in 28 overs
Gill and Desai have brought up their 50-run partnership off 62 balls. The work however is just half done. One of them needs to get a century, something that has eluded India in this world Cup. And Gill is the one who seems likely to do it. He is 33 off 40 and is batting beautifully.
04:49 AM (IST)We’re halfway through the innings and India are going strong at 130/2
04:40 AM (IST)Gill declares his intentions with a couple of quick boundaries. India 118/2 in 22 overs
Mind you, Shubman Gill has been India’s highest-scorer for India in the tournament. He’s scored a half-century in each of the three innings he has batted for India in the World Cup. He has scores of 63 against Australia, 90* against Zimbabwe and another 86 against Bangladesh in the quarterfinal.
04:29 AM (IST)100 up for India for the loss of two wickets in 18.2 overs
04:22 AM (IST)OUT! Two in two for Pakistan. India 94/2 in 17.2 overs
They are right back into the match. Two wickets in two overs and India have lost both their set batsmen. First Shaw, and now Kalra, who inside edged this one from Muhammad Musa to the keeper. He goes for 47, allowing Pakistan to claw back. India will need to rebuild through Shubman Gill and Harvik Desai.
04:15 AM (IST)Out walks Shubman Gill, who was recently acquired for Rs. 1.8 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders
04:14 AM (IST)Success finally for Pakistan, Shaw run out for 41. India 89/1 in 15.3 overs
So after four run-out chances, Pakistan have finally hit the stumps for the first time. And it has resulted in the dismissal of the Indian captain Prithvi Shaw. Takes off for a risky single but Muhammad Musa collected the ball and dislodged the stumps. Shaw tried his best to get in; put in the dive but unfortunately for him, couldn’t ground the bat as well as he’d have wanted to. Well, that’s that!
04:07 AM (IST)After 15 over, India unharmed at 85/0 (Kalra 42*, Shaw 40*)
Pakistan have still not been able to get a breakthrough. The Indian openers – Kalra and Shaw, however, have only gotten better. They consistently scoring at over 5.5 on a surface that is only getting better to bat on. Pakistan need to do something really quickly.
03:47 AM (IST)First maximum of the match and it comes off the bat of the Indian skipper. India 68/0 in 11 overs
Flat and short from Hassan and his Indian counterpart has dispatched it way over the deep midwicket fence.
03:43 AM (IST)Pakistan have let go two run out chances and two catches
03:39 AM (IST)Another chance goes begging for Pakistan
This one was slightly tougher. Full and outside off from skipper Hassan and Manjot Kalra slashes at it. The ball takes a healthy edge and it’s Zaid once again, who cannot latch onto it at slips. India going strong at 57/0 after 9 overs.
03:36 AM (IST)Openers bring up India’s 50 inside 8 overs
Manjot Kalra, who has been pretty impressive on the off side, brings up the 50-run stand between him and Shaw for the opening wicket with a square cut for four – his sixth boundary
03:34 AM (IST)Sloppy fielding from Pakistan
Two chances in two balls for Pakistan but they can’t convert either. First a run-out chance of Indian captain Shaw, followed by a drop catch at first slip of Kalra. Everything going India’s way so far.
03:24 AM (IST)A breezy start by India. 34/0 in five overs
After two testing overs by Pakistan, their pacers Arshad Iqbal and Mohammad Musa have been all over the place. Too full and Manjot Kalra and Prithvi Shaw have made the most of it. After just five overs, India have managed to hit six boundaries, six of them belonging to the left-handed Kalra. In order to shake things up a bit, Pakistan have gone to left-armer Shaheen Afridi. This promises to be an interesting contest.
03:10 AM (IST)Spanking square cut for 4 from Prithvi Shaw. India underway
Slightly short outside off from Mohammad Musa and the Indian captain was quick to pounce on it. Four all the way
03:04 AM (IST)A tight first over from Pakistan pacer Arshad Iqbal, just two coming off the opening over for India
