7th Pay Commission: Good News regarding Minimum Pay Hike, Fitment Factor Likely For 50 Lakh Central Govt Employees

New Delhi, Apr 6: Nearly 50 lakh central government employees might har a good news regarding a hike in minimum pay and fitment factor beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission soon. Although the government had said that it hasn’t been considering a hike in minimum pay and fitment factor beyond what has been recommended in the 7th Pay Commission, it is likely that the government might reconsider it before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“Ahead of general elections next year, the BJP-led central government is mulling to implement the pay hike for central government employees,” a senior government official told The Sen Times. “Besides, the government will also consider raising the retirement age of all central government employees from the present 60 to 62 years. The decisions may be taken to achieve the aim at luring central government employees to turn voters in support of BJP,” he added. With the reports, there could be some relief fro the central government employees demanding minimum pay and fitment factor beyond the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. (Update: 7th Pay Commission: Salary Hike, Increase in Retirement Age of Central Govt Employees Likely Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections)

Apart from minimum pay and fitment factor, the government may consider raising the retirement age of the central government employees by two years. The current retirement age of the government employees is 60 years. Recently, Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh increased the retirement age by two more years to 62. In another reports, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), said that they could now avail Leave Travel Concession (LTC).

The government had earlier said that it wasn’t considering any hike beyond the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. “The minimum pay of Rs.18,000/- p.m. and fitment factor of 2.57 are based on the specific recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission in the light of the relevant factors taken into account by it. Therefore, no change therein is at present under consideration,” Minister of State Finance, P Radhakrishnan told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The Commission had suggested a minimum pay hike from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000, maximum basic pay from Rs 80,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh and fitment factor at 2.57. Rejecting the 7th pay Commission suggestions, the central government employees demanded hike in basic pay from Rs 7,000 to Rs Rs 26,000 with fitment factor from 2.57 to 3.68 times.
