New Delhi:- Government today issued notification for implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) for ex-servicemen keeping with its promise of pre-Diwali announcement made yesterday.

Pension of past pensioners would be re-fixed on the basis of pension of retirees of 2013 and the benefit will be from July 1, 2014.

Pension will be re-fixed as per average of minimum and maximum pension of personnel retired in 2013 in same rank and same length of service.

In future, the pension would be re-fixed every 5 years.

Personnel who opt to get discharged, now on, on their request will not get benefits of OROP. It will be effective prospectively.

The OROP notification will not be acceptable, says Maj Gen Satbir Singh (Retd), Chairman of Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement.

Miffed over delay in the issuance of the notification for ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) Scheme, protesting veterans had announced they will return their service medals across the country from next week.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had said yesterday that the notification will be issued before Diwali.

“As you are aware, it will be issued before Diwali,” Parrikar told reporters in reply to a question when the notification on OROP will come out.

Though the government had announced OROP scheme on September 5, a section of the veterans had continued their protest citing seven lacunae, including annual equalisation, 2013-14 as the base year among others.
